MANHATTAN - Federal investigators executed a search warrant at the home of the newly appointed police commissioner. Officials claim the investigation is not related to the fed probes into City Hall officials.

Last night Interim Police Commissioner Thomas G. Donlon released the following statement:

“On Friday, September 20, federal authorities executed search warrants at my residences. They took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department.

“This is not a department matter, and the department will not be commenting,” the statement concluded.

The cryptic statement shocked officials and City Hall watchers who saw Donlon as a stabilizing force following the sudden resignation of Commissioner Edward Caban.

Donlon has held positions in law enforcement for decades. During his time in the FBI Donlon worked on the FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force. He also served as New York’s director of Homeland Security.

The NY Post is reporting that the feds are looking into whether Donlon took classified documents when he worked for the FBI.

Last week, Donlon was announced as the interim police commissioner under great fanfare by the mayor trying to turn away from the Caban resignation and continuing federal probe.

“To ensure crime keeps going down in our city today, I’m taking immediate action in appointing Tom Donlon as interim police commissioner,” Adams said during a press conference.

“Tom is an experienced law enforcement professional who has worked at the local, state, federal, and international levels,” the mayor said.

Caban had resigned amid a federal investigation into his brother and his connections to local nightclubs.

Published reports claim the feds are looking into Caban’s brother running an alleged a shake down scheme with NYC nightclubs.

Caban’s electronic devices were seized by the feds and he resigned a short time later.

Current Police Commissioner Donlon stated that this search of his home is not related to the current probes of Caban and other City Hall officials.
