MANHATTAN - A two-year-old girl living in a homeless shelter died from a drug overdose in June, the medical examiner’s office determined. The girl’s death has been ruled a homicide.

A final report by the city’s medical examiner’s office determined that 2-year-old Mariya Huebler died due to a drug overdose from ingesting methadone. The child’s unresponsive body was found inside a room at a Harlem homeless shelter, at 30 Hamilton Place, around 11:40 pm on June 7.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. No arrests have been made at this time and police have been tight lipped about the investigation.

At the time of Mariya’s death, investigators said there were no obvious signs of trauma on the child’s body and waited for the toxicology report before categorizing the investigation as a homicide.

ME officials said the child had ingested a large about of methadone.
